You really don't want to miss the Fall Colors in the Eastern Sierras. They are quiet stunning!
The Aspens are also very fickle in that they change colors at their own pace depending on the altitude and weather. A Sudden wind storm, snow storm, or a cold frost can wipe out the colors in a certain spot over night while leaving others unharme.
So knowing where the great spots are and have "intel" on what the latest color conditions are can make the difference in having a fantastic color safari or just a good one. (You can never really have a terrible time in the Sierras)
I was going to build out a resource list but a good Flickr friend Jean Day beat me to it. To be honest I could not have done a better job. Not only does she list out the great spots and where to get up to the date information, she has some great photos of what the fall colors look like!
Here is the link to her Flickr Post Jean Day's Fall Color Post
While you're there take a look at her photostream. She has some wonderful images from the Sierras and Northern Cal.
I hope this helps you have a great time visiting the Eastern Sierras in the fall.
